Search engine optimization has long been dominated by men, but recently, more and more women have begun to take their place as experts. This field has traditionally attracted mostly men, but new generations of professionals are starting to shift that trend, bringing with them fresh perspectives on how to approach SEO.

Whether you’re just beginning your search for the best manchester SEO agency or you’re looking to hire an in-house specialist, it’s important to know what to look for when hiring female experts. Find out the benefits of working with women specialists and learn more about their diverse backgrounds and approaches below.

From the beginning. What is Search Engine Optimization?

It is taking steps to improve the visibility of a website in organic search results. The goal is to get the highest ranking position or place on the first page of the search. For this reason, knowledge in the fields of IT, programming, marketing and promotion is used. It is about adapting the website to the needs and intentions of the recipients and meeting the ranking conditions in terms of algorithms.

The war of the sexes. What does the SEO industry look like?

Women experts have been instrumental in making this field what it is today. Their presence has been felt since the 1990s, when they created major websites such as Yahoo! (founded by Jody Rein), AltaVista (founded by Michael Mauldin), HotBot (founded by Bill Gross), and Ask Jeeves (started by David Warthen). These founders shaped how we interact with our browsers to this day.

It’s no secret that SEO is a male-dominated industry. Here are some statistics about women in SEO you might find interesting.

  • Women represent 40% of those who have an advanced degree in computer science.
  • The percentage of women holding senior level positions has increased from 18% to 29% over the last 10 years.
  • Women represent 47% of senior management jobs within SEO.
  • More than 50 percent of companies with more than 500 employees have at least one woman on their board of directors.
  • Women make up just 25% of software developers and less than 15% of all engineers.
