It takes approx. 3 minutes to read this article

Girls with curly as well as those with porous, unruly and frizzy hair know that keratin straightening can be a lifesaver for them. The results are sure to please anyone who dreams of shiny and smooth hair. But what should you know before you decide to have this treatment?

Keratin Straightening Treatment: What is it?

Keratin straightening (also called keratinization) is a treatment, which is now offered by almost every cosmetic and hair salon. Its aim is to qualitatively improve the condition of hair and its reconstruction, thanks to which it becomes smooth and thick. At the same time, the effects are visible for a long time. The main hero of the treatment is protein keratin. It is it that penetrates the hair structure, smooths it and repairs all micro-damages. During the treatment the hair is heated and under the influence of heat the keratin envelopes each hair, creating an invisible coating on the entire surface. The effect of the treatment lasts no longer than 3-4 months – throughout this time the hair looks very healthy, smooth and shiny.

For whom is keratinization suitable?

There is a common misconception that keratinization is only suitable for long hair. Keratin straightening for hair at least 8-10 cm long also gives an excellent effect: styling is not troublesome, the hair looks thicker, shinier. The procedure is most often decided by girls who have too curly or very thin hair. Keratinization also helps when even after the most careful styling the hair looks neglected. Keratin coating organizes the locks – rebuilds them and visibly smooths them.

And When Should You Not Do Keratin Hair Straightening? Contraindications to the procedure are:

  • susceptibility to allergies;
  • The presence of abrasions, wounds, dermatitis, psoriasis rash and other scalp injuries;
  • intensive hair loss;
  • pregnancy and breastfeeding period.

Pros and cons of keratin hair straightening

Naturally, keratin hair straightening has both advantages and disadvantages. The pros are undoubtedly:

  • hair wrapping keratin that gives each strand a shiny and well-groomed look;
  • Easier combing of hair;
  • Styling takes much less time and effort.

If you repeat the treatment regularly, you can count on a cumulative (and of course, immediate) effect, as keratin builds up in your hair over time.

Among the disadvantages of keratin straightening can be singled out by individual intolerance to the components of the composition used in the procedure.

What gives keratinization of hair?

Immediately after straightening with keratin:

  • your hair looks smooth, well-groomed, shiny;
  • you can forget about tangled and frizzy hair;
  • the process of drying and styling hair of different lengths is greatly facilitated, which saves time.

What’s more, the keratin composition, which forms a protective layer on the hair, protects it from hot appliances, harmful sunlight and other negative external factors.

Care after keratinization

In order for keratin for hair straightening to do its job, there are a few rules to follow immediately after the treatment:

  • do not wash your hair for the first three days;
  • sulfate-free shampoos that gently cleanse the hair are strongly recommended for shampooing;
  • once a week, a conditioning mask should be applied to the hair.

In addition, stylists recommend blow-drying your hair after shampooing – they believe hot air helps keratin stay in your hair longer.
